Breaking Waters

Installation 1996

Curator: Havatzelet Kolodro
Janco-Dada Museum, EinHod

Breaking Waters :
Images of embryos printed in earth colors on bubble-plastic sheet, imprisoned in transparent air containers, float in the gallery and fill its space The mechanical procedure of rubbing graphite on a wooden board creates a dense wood texture which fills and marks the paper, and becomes a frozen water space with static flow. The "water" flows down the stairs from the gallery's upper level to the entrance.

Dry Aquarium:
In a dry space, in which the amniotic fluid is replaced by dense air, the embryos are in constant state of floating. As described by Ran Shehori (in the article "Without matrix" published in the Tel Aviv weekly in July 1993), "Dry Aquarium", an "artificial, substitute matrix", is Miri's direct and merciless rendering of female impotence.
